The Corporation

In this acclaimed documentary from the co-director of Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomksy and the Media, 40 corporate insiders and critics—including Michael Moore, Noam Chomsky, No Logo author Naomi Klein and Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman—explore the nature and spectacular rise of the most pervasive institution of our time. Combining analysis with footage from advertising, television news and industrial films, The Corporation is an entertaining and provocative look at the inner workings, curious history, controversial impacts and possible futures of the modern global conglomerate.
Noam Chomsky: “[For The Corporation], the ideal is to have individuals who are totally disassociated from one another, who don’t care about anyone else … whose conception of themselves, their sense of value is ‘just how many created wants can I satisfy?’”

I just wanted this Doc last week and it really made me–once again–view the life I have and the culture I’m a part of–through different eyes. I loved the one quote that stated something to the effect of, “Before Corporations, man belonged to the land and treated it as such. Today, it is simply a means to more money.” When I lived in New Zealand, I rarely saw any “No Trespassing” signs or barriers to hiking through other’s property. Nature is simply treated differently in their culture. It’s all property in the U.S.
I did appreciate how that oil exec actually served tea on the front lawn of his home and held an open forum with a group of environmental protesters. That would never happen here!
Great Doc! Please watch!

Ditto that. Upon watching it for the first time, I swore to watch it once a month as a reminder because it’s so easy to forget . . . after all, we’re barraged by millions of dollars worth of propoganda telling us to consume every day. I consider it part of my battle against mind control.

[...] (The Corporation was a loaner from my friend Nisha—thanks Nisha!—because friends don’t let friends enlarge their environmental footprint without just cause.) [...]
