Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down

DIY projects from the May/June 2006 issue of Natural Home & Garden

Natural Home & Garden generally posts its DIY projects online even before the issue hits the stands. Its May/June 2006 issue includes instructions on how to make your own très-famous-Swedish-retailer pendant lamp out of string and glue (left) and a very stylish fabric basket from cast-off neckties (right). I think this one recurring feature already makes the magazine worth the cost of subscription, but I also appreciate the green-building resources that I’m filing away for the day we leave renters’ purgatory. (You can find a selection of its past DIY projects archived here.)

Bonus: The rag is printed on 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper that is processed chlorine-free. (I’m not too keen on the fact the paper comes all the way from Denmark, however, but I guess the extra fuel cost is less damaging than the rampant deforestation needed for virgin pulp.)
