There really isn’t anything sadder than an aging hipster. In fact, that whole New York feature made me want to hack up my spleen. My eyes have rolled so far back into their sockets I’m almost afraid that Satan will make them freeze that way FOREVER.
Also, wow, look at all dem white people.
And another thing: whoever came up with “yupster” and “yindie,” or repurposed “grups” for their diabolic purposes needs to be put down like the lame, Emo-listening, OC-watching dog they are. And then set on fire.

I know. Isn’t it crazy? I don’t get it at all–the overpowering need to seem ‘cool’ to the 20-something crowd at 40. The giving your kid a mohawk because you think it’s cool. The “kids have no taste.” Yikes. Scary, unfamiliar.

Keeping up with modern music and fashion doesn’t creep me out at all– as they mention 500 times in the article, current indie music is not a radical departure from the last 30 years of indie music. There’s nothing to keep up with; the 40-year-olds are staying the same. Younger kids spend a lot of energy immitating everything that’s old school anyway. Anti-corporate, pro-art attitudes have a long history.
What saddens me is the self-centered assumption that this means nothing will ever change again. It will be indie music forever, design school fashion forever, respect the canon forever, and especially my-children-are-less-cool-than-me forever. Watch out for those trends that involve, say, politics, business, science, work ethics or adolescent hormones. Yeowch!
And seriously, I’m glad someone else noticed the oppressive grids of matching white people. Who thinks that’s a normal set of photos?

I don’t mind the music stuff - it’s the general attitude of these parents…at some point, these kids are going to need to hate their parents…it’s the way it happens..or else kids would live with their parents forever! You should not be your kid’s best friend. The parents are trying so hard to make their kids “individuals” they are making them clones of themselves.
Non-whites should be glad not to be included with these hipster doofuses!!
