Recycled Newspaper Coasters

My love affair with recycled paper objets d’art continues with these outstanding newspaper coasters made by a women’s cooperative in the Philippines (and available at the fair-trade friendly Ten Thousand Villages for $16). Take a look, also, at this remarkable recycled paper frame and the recycled paper hot mat. I wonder how the artisans managed to fold these without smudging the newsprint?

Hi!
My dad has some of these coasters. They are awesome! I’m a recycler and a crafter and I’m dying to make some of these as well as other objects (my head is spinning with ideas). Do you have any idea how the paper strips are folded? are you a crafter and have you attempted to make any?

thanks for writing me! please do a tutorial!!! no wait….I can’t wait for a tutorial, better yet, just a quick email to tell me how to fold the strips of paper before forming them into coasters, what kind of glue to use and what to cover them when finished.
I make handmade journals and i’m thinking about making some bookcovers with them.
I’ve been browsing your site…..I could Live here! Awesome!
blessings,
deanna

Hi!
Like to recycle old newspapers into baskets but didn’t continue on for lack of market. Am from the Philippines and would like to link with the Filipino cooperative group. Do you happen to have contact address?
