A bit slow on the uptake here, but hubzilla’s old boss, the Los Angeles Times (name drop, name drop), has an AMAZING five-part series on the environmental crisis facing our oceans.

Part One: Crucial habitats are falling victim to the changing chemistry of the oceans.

Part Two: Toxic algae and bacteria are poisoning marine mammals, other sea life.

Part Three: Red tides multiply and worsen, and the winds carry their toxins ashore.

Part Four: Seaborne plastic debris poses a lethal hazard to wildlife.

Part Five: Seawater is turning acidic, threatening fish, coral, and mother marine life.

Avast, suffice to say, it ain’t pretty, me maties.
