    i tend to favour the Economist’s suggestion that a comprehensive carbon tax should be used to price in the external costs of freight etc… the article came within a whisker of the idea, but didn’t quite make it explicit that IF big agri-business groups like Cargill, ADM, protected cotton and sugar farms etc.. are not subsidised and given tons of other incentives, the balance might shift in favour of more localised produce.
