Manhattan in January

In case you missed it the first time, be sure to download and listen to Jill Sobule performing “Manhattan in January,” her song about global warming and … well … Manhattan in January—where it’s 61 degrees. In Manhattan. In January. I just have four words: Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. Y’all.

My preacher says “Now don’t you worry,
“The scientists have it all wrong.”
And so who cares, it’s winter here,
And I have my halter top on.

Our planet has been heating up at about 0.36 of a degree (F) per decade for the past 30 years. Meanwhile, eggheads at UC Davis have found compelling evidence that a “period of strong warming came at the end of a long, intensely glacial period—and we’re breaking out of another million-year glacial period again right now.” They’ve noted, however, that for the past 400,000 years, atmospheric levels of heat-trapping carbon dioxide have ranged naturally from 180 to 280 parts per million. Today’s current “human perturbed” level: about 370 parts per million.

P.S. You have until midnight today to submit your green New Year’s resolutions for our contest! Oh, yeah!

How can anyone say that global warming is a bogus idea when we have weather like this? It’s so scary!
