Bake Sales to Save the Whales

Greenpeace Bake Sale to Save the Whales

Graphic by Greenpeace

To spread awareness about the ills of commercial whaling, Greenpeace is designating April 28th and 29th as “national days of action.” And it wants to recruit you (YOU!) to organize a bake sale to raise funds for the organization, distribute fliers, as well as pass out petitions addressed to the International Whaling Commission, which will be meeting in the United States this May. Once you’re signed up, you’ll get a free toolkit, including whale-shape cookie cutters, petitions, and fact sheets. You can also visit the site to check out (or volunteer at) any bake sales in your area.

If you’ve ever felt the urge to wave origami whales (folding instructions included in the kit!) under the noses of civilians minding their own business, while spraying them with partially masticated crumbs and yelling “THAR SHE BLOWS,” this is your moment to SHINE.

This is fantastic!! I’m not sure if my love of cookies, whales or Greenpeace is responsible for my excitment- but the combination is making me kind of giddy.

Thanks for the spreading the word. I think my traveling family will be in New Mexico, so we’ll be checking the list or looking for more direct invitations (hint, hint) to bake sale activity in the Roswell area. Anyone?

    cheers!

Can you IMAGINE me trying to do this in Japan? I’d be killed.

    (I wish I had an oven…)
