Tina Fey as Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live
Clinton: I believe global warming is caused by man.
Palin: And I believe it’s just God huggin’ us closer.
I’d be laughing harder if I didn’t want to dive under my covers in horror and fear that this drill-happy, global-warming-denying (mostly), polar-bear-hating, wolf-shooting, book-banning (allegedly), reproductive-rights-fighting, nepotistic, revenge-seeking creationist could be a heart attack or bullet away from becoming president of the United States.

But at least she is a patriot. She loves America. She loves God and in God we trust, right? Guess you can figure out I am a Republican. Ooops…I also enjoy your blog and crafting and recycling and many of the same things you do. So I think we can still be friends. I hope we can both do a shout out to being an American - and living in a land where we can disagree and still be agreeable.

Arlene,
What makes Sarah Palin a patriot? Why do Republicans tend to have such a narrow view of patriotism? I think that my railing against what I see going on in this country is every ounce as patriotic as supporting America and her leadership always and without question.
Also, I can’t remember the last time that someone said liberals and conservatives can’t be friends. However, I don’t have conservative friends, because I think they’re incredibly wrong-headed, and I believe that their politics probably inform their characters as much as mine do.
In any event, I think that there are many things more important than loving America and loving God — human rights, being good stewards of the earth’s resources, and making sure that everyone has the opportunity to decide whether to become a parent — not just her daughter.
